We loved our trip to Quebec City during the holiday season.
One of the big reasons why: there are several options for things to do with little ones!
Here are the top five things Trevor enjoyed most during our trip to Quebec City:
1.) Benjo Toy Store
Toy stores are a mixed bag for Tru. He loves exploring. But he doesn’t understand that he can’t just sit down and open up any box – which means he’s had his share of toy store tantrums! But Benjo was unique and wonderful. It’s big and wide open with plenty of room to wander and explore. And they have lots of display toys – which are ok to touch and play with – set up all throughout the store. Trevor loved the child-sized ride-on train especially.
2.) Aquarium du Quebec
The aquarium provided us with a full afternoon of entertainment. There were several outdoor exhibits – including polar bears, walruses, and seals – we were only able to quickly pass by (it was freezing outside!) But they had lots of indoor exhibits and interactive activities as well, such as hands-on exhibits where Trevor could touch stingrays and starfish. All of the colorful outdoor lighting displays for the aquarium’s wintertime “Festi Lumiere” were also set up. We were at the aquarium during the afternoon, so we didn’t get the full effect. But if you’re in Quebec City on a not-too-cold evening, Festi Lumiere would be worth a visit.
3.) Quartier Petit Champlain
We loved this part of Quebec City. Quartier Petit Champlain has beautiful Old World stone buildings, cobblestone streets, and stunning and picturesque holiday decor. So it’s definitely the place to go for stunning holiday family pictures and vacation selfies. There’s also a gorgeous outdoor Santa’s Village display, with stunning holiday lights and Chateau Frontenac as a backdrop. Children can meet Santa and get photos at certain times of the day. Unfortunately, Tru started wailing the moment we placed him on Santa’s lap, so I don’t have that photo to share!
4.) Funiculaire du Vieux Quebec
The funicular, which transports visitors from Quartier Petite Champlain up to Chateau Frontenac (and vice versa), is perfect for little ones. It’s a fun and very quick five-minute ride up a cliff face. And the floor-to-ceiling windows provide panoramic views across the Quartier Petit Champlain and the Old Port.
5.) Musee National des Beaux-Arts du Quebec
Quebec City’s art museum is large with a wide variety of stunning exhibits. But what I loved about this museum is that they have a Family Gallery. The gallery is a large, colorful, interactive exhibit where young children are able to touch and climb and explore to their heart’s content! I can’t remember ever seeing a children’s exhibit in any other art museum I’ve visited, and I loved that this museum was so welcoming of little ones! If you’re with two or more adults, one can remain with the child while the other has the chance to tour the rest of the museum.
